Lucky Ones

Lucky Ones was a film idea that was based on the silent pressure of society and how it can effect a person, their relationships and their actions.

The film is set in modern day society, before the impacts of Covid19,  when you could travel, and not wear facemasks.

Lucky Ones was designed to be a short movie to be uploaded online and to be entered into film festivals such as Aesthetica short film festival.

Creating a final university project, Lucky Ones was not the only idea that was thought of.

Another film that was thought of surrounds the idea of the 'red string of fate'.

The reason as to why Lucky Ones was the film to be made, was a mix due to the current covid situation, as well as the personal need to adress how pressure is constantly around in day to day life.

Lucky Ones went though many changes in terms of how I could represent society's pressure. The idea that ended up in the film is the pressure and expectation to get married, have kids and settle down, as this was considered the stereotypical social normal.

One of the ideas that didn't make the final part of the film would be an ending where the main character felt compelled original to be in a heterosexual relationship, in this ending, she decides to choose her happiness and push aside the pressure of the social normal.

These presentations are consisting of the original draft, and the final PowerPoint that backed my film.

Pre-Production

Having a concept for the film, the next part is the pre-production, this section will show all of the paperwork and smaller details that had to be changed.

Due to Covid19 many changes has to be addressed to be ready for the final filming.

For example; script, risk assessments, storyboards, budget and shooting schedule.

In each area, how covid19 impacted that area and how i adapted around that.

Script

For the script, it was originally designed for a post covid19 filming, consisting of body contact, travelling and mix of house holds, however due to a national lockdown, the script needed to change.

On the second edition of the script, it was adapted for covid19 rules, reducing the number of actors, not mixing households and reducing the amount of locations. This is to make sure that the script can be filmed with the safety of the cast and crew in mind, as long as following government guidelines.

Covid Edition

Risk Assessment

Risk Assessment is one of the main topics I found needed constant changing due to the Covid19 situation, with new rules coming out and the different tiers we were being implemented in.

This section of the documents are risk assessments which follow the first script, having a post covid19 time.

These risk assessments are of the locations;

-Beach

-Car

-Chipshop

-Hill

-House (INT)

-House (EXT)

-Park

-Shop

Location Report

Location Report is a very important thing to log when trying to find places which are best suited to your film and the scenes and emotions your trying to portray. An example would be, you wouldn't have a tear jerking moment, which is meant to make the audience feel sad and emotional, filmed in a MacDonald's bathroom.

These are the locations I am filming below; and here are the location reports on the right.

-Beach

-Car

-Chipshop

-Hill

-House Ext

-House Int

-Shop.

Requirements

In the word document to the left, is a list of the main requirements that will be needed for the shooting and production of the film, especially to be made with as little exposure to COVID19 as possible. Taking hand sanitiser and face masks into account.

Storyboards

The storyboards consist of three scenes within the movie, in the files below!

This storyboard shows the Chip shop scene, as well as the moment the main protagonist and the lady she meets have a proper conversation.

This is when we first get introduced to the boyfriend.

This is the storyboard where the relationship shows the most symbolism, in this scene it shows the burning eggs, and how the conversation goes from nice to burn out.

In this storyboard, it has the main protagonist and the lady she meets on a hill having a conversation about their feelings.

This is also close to the ending.

Test Footage

I have included some test footage below of my project!

These are not the exact pieces of footage I will be including in my short film, but are examples of transitions and shots I like and may use.

This is test footage that was taken in November of 2020. The test footage was to see what kind of angles and timing would be best to show our main protagonist getting in the car, and in what situation this could differ.

The footage was taken form about eight different angles, which was cut down to the angles shown in the video.

I decided that the best shot type is a mid-long shot, for outside of the car, and a mid-close up for the inside of the car.

This is footage that was taken in May 2020, from a home music video I made for the band 'With High Regards'.

I included this piece as test footage due to the fact it includes a transition I want to include.

The transition is in the movie Rope (1948) and uses transitions like this to make it seem like a seamless edit.

I decided for these shots that a mid-close up would be a good start, then I have more control over how the transition goes.

This is footage that was taken in May 2020, from a home music video I made for the band 'With High Regards'.

I included this piece as test footage due to the fact it in my  short film, there is a flashback, so I tried to link the flashback to the footage and was wondering if I was able to do that.

In this piece of footage, I use the steering wheel as a link in between shots, as for the final film, I'm thinking of using a blanket.

I decided for these shots that a mid-close up would be a good start, and the moving into more close ups to show how the characters are comfortable and close with eachother.

Presentation

Below is a link to the Video presentation I recorded for my short film 'Lucky Ones'.

It contains Information on the pre-production and secondary research of the project.

Reflective Journal

In my reflecting journal, it discusses what happened in different variations, and what I learned form it. I explain how I want to apply this to future projects as well as why it works so well for my  choice of topic.

Peer Review

Below are some images of peer review of the first edition of the first PowerPoint, which you can see has impacted my second and final PowerPoint immensely;
